This week, we tackled tree trimming. Although the apple tree produced apples this year, they were really small. The tree itself hadn't been tamed in years so, we decided to lob the top off and hope for bigger apples next year.
I don't have before pictures (our server has my older pictures held captive:-) but, here is what we cut off:
And here is what is left of the tree:
It's kind of hard to tell from these pictures but the goal is to make it short and fat. We have achieved short and in spring, hopefully, it will fill out to fat:-)
Great job! I would love an apple tree but alas here in the Sunshine State we are prone to oranges lol.
ReplyDeleteI hope it fattens out for you in the spring. Send me down some will ya?
Blessings.
I had an apple tree at my old house....I miss that tree.
ReplyDeleteWow, how awesome! It looks so pretty there!
ReplyDeleteBring those branches over to my house! We will turn it into mulch and reuse it!
ReplyDeleteI hope it grows the way you want it to. Great tackle!
ReplyDeleteWOW ! that was WAY longer than 5 minutes
ReplyDeleteI would love an apple tree. It looks like you took a ton of branches off. Great job!

Good job! Can't wait to see the outcome next year. How are you doing these days?
ReplyDeleteVery productive tackle! I hope your tree grows huge sweet apples! Thanks for coming by my blog too.

Wow! That looks like a lot of work....
ReplyDeleteAhhh, short and fat...it sounds like me as a baby. :0)
ReplyDeleteInteresting , short and fat are so rarely desirable!
ReplyDeleteCheers
looks like a big job! i would have loved to seen a pic with you and a chain saw! hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI saw that headline and thought you were trimming your Christmas tree already. I was going to yell at you if you were...
ReplyDeleteAfter we pruned our apple trees a few years ago they didn't produce too many apples at first--but after a couple of years we got a lot!!
ReplyDeleteI would so love to have an apple tree in my yard. My parents used to have a crab apple tree over their garage. It was the bane of my Dad's existence, but I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThe blizzard of petals were my favorite sign of spring.
Sadly, a real storm took it down a few years ago. At least that's what my Dad *said* happened to it...
Great job! It should make a huge difference! :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I'd love an apple tree in my yard!
ReplyDeleteWow, you lucky gal! I'd love an apple tree in my yard. We had some growing up and I remember my dad pruning them. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI'd let you come do mine! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tackle!
I feel for ya... tree trimming is a big tackle. Good job!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh this is something we need to do BADLY! We have 8 trees that need some serious trimming. I keep getting conflicting advice...some say to trim them in the fall and others say in January or February. I'm confused! lol
ReplyDelete~melody~
That's a big tackle! Hope the apples come out bigger next year. :)
ReplyDeleteLol. At first I thought you were talking about putting up a Christmas tree!!!! He-he Looks good, now what are you going to make with those apples?? Thanks for stopping by my blog, don't get too many visitors, yet so I get tickled pink when they come by!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! Tree trimming sounds like work. we trim through out the summer months, and it's definatly a chore.
ReplyDeleteMade me tired just looking at all that work...lol
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of the apple tree my grandmother had in her yard when we were kids. The mulberry trees were fun too. Unfortunately the only tree in my tiny yard now is a maple.
ReplyDeleteGreat Tackle...We trimmed trees last year...They looked sad till spring...
ReplyDeleteGood job.
Thanks for the visit at my blog....
