This weekend, we cleaned out our compost pile. It was full of beautiful black gold for the vegetable garden. And, there were a ton of leaves from fall that hadn't broken down. So, we crunched them all up and used them for mulch on our flower beds. I love how the trees in our yard produces mulch that matches the French brick on our house:-) What do you think?
We have enough mulch left over to cover the vegetable garden once it's planted and refresh the gardens throughout the season. And, I have a new pile of raw materials started for next year. If I continue to feed and turn this new pile, I will have wonderful black gold for next year's garden! I love how my compost bin is nature's recyle bin:-)

It does match wonderfully!!
I love composting! I just hate turning it with the pitchfork. I guess I shouldn't though; it is a good workout for my arms!
Again, you are amazing. I do think it matches perfectly.
That looks great. Look at you go giving back to the earth.
I want a garden so bad! No space for it in my townhouse, though. Someday...
I would love to get in my yard and really work on it, just never have the time.. looks great!!
My mom's compost has been invaded by tree roots from underneath. Sucks the life and black gold right out. Good news is she has a very healthy evergreen tree. LOL!
I've just been investigating composting...
And it's very considerate of your trees to produce such wonderfully color coordinated leaves. Can they send a memo to my trees and ask them to get with the program?!
It looks so nice Susie! One of my other blog pals just wrote about how she uses her recycling stuff for her compost!!
I love brick houses! Reminds me of my grandparents house in VA!
sweet. i am jealous.
Lovin that black gold! Your beds look so pretty
Oooh, tulips! MY fave!! :D
We love black gold! I was just playing with mine today. Due to all of our recent rain it got too wet so now I am shredding newspapers and leaves trying to dry it out! Nothing better than feeding the garden with your home made compost!
It looks great! We use leaves for mulch too.
I have never thought of using leaves for our flower beds... great idea! My parent's have so many leaves that they don't know what to do with... I'll suggest we all reuse them!
