She did it! She tackled the test to the deep end. Then, she proceeded to have a ball!

First Overnight Camp
This weekend, we tackled my youngest's first overnight camp with the Girl Scouts. It was so much fun, mostly because I didn't have to plan it. I just showed up. They went on hikes (seen below), swam, did crafts, went paddle boating and played a TON of games.

My daughter's reaction?
"This was the best day of my life".
You can't ask for more than that:-)

Planning Planning Planning
It may be summer vacation but I have been working hard on planning for next year. Taking on the roles of both PTO President AND being School Organizer for our Girl Scout program is proving to be daunting.
My goals for the PTO are to hype up the marketing program. As such, I have been playing around with a 52-page Power Point presentation.Gir
As for Girl Scouts, my goal is to plan an all-school bridging. Not a small task because our school is large and the market share is large:-) A good problem to have.
So, I will continue plugging away at my planning in the hopes to have a successful transition in the fall:-)

Preparing for Brownies
This weekend, my youngest is bridginng over from Daisy Girl Scouts to Brownie Girl Scouts. In preparation for it, I sewed all her patches on her new uniform:

Correction, my MIL did it. Can you tell which stitch belongs to her and which belongs to me?

I will give you a hint. It took her 20 minutes to do the whole uniform and me 1 hour to do one patch:-)

Daisies on the Prairie
This weekend, I tackled meeting our Daisy troop out at a Little House on the Prairie outing on one of the local Girl Scout properties. It was cold but the experience was awesome! They got to learn all about how people who forged west in our country lived. There was a blacksmith and rifles and crafts and music and spindling yard and so much more!
Here they are grinding corn that they subsequentally made into Johnny Cakes over an open fire.
We learned that it was a hard but happy life in which everyone relied on each other. We have those pioneers to thank for building our great country:-)

Girl Scout Ornament Exchange 2010
Every year, the Girl Scouts at my youngest's elementary school participate in an ornament exchange. The girls make three of the same ornaments: one to keep, one to trade with another Girl Scout and one to give to charity. It is a crazy loud event but one that reall speaks to the holiday and the spirit of Girl Scouts.
Here is what we made/traded this year along with the participation patch:

How to Make a Sit Upon
Today, I am posting about making sit-upons with my Daisy troop. Sit-upons are an honored tradition with the Girl Scouts. Being the adventurous bunch that they are, you often find yourself with a need for something to "sit upon" (hence the name). I was able to donate $4.20 of materials for the project. A bargain craft, wouldn't you say?
Step 2: Tape three sides of the square with masking tape:

Step 3: Punch holes through the tape.

Step 4: Thread ribbon or yarn through the holes all the way up one side. Tie at the top and leave enough for a handle. Tie it on the other side and then thread down the second side.

Step 5: Fill with newpaper:

Step 6: Tape it closed:

Step 7: Throw a sit-upon upon on your shoulder and enjoy:-)
Step 1: Buy vinyl/fabric-backed table clothes. You will need enough to and cut them into 14'' X 28'' squares/one for each girl. Fold them in half to make a 14 inch square.

Daisy Cupcakes
My youngest expressed interest in scouting which, as a former girl scout, thrilled me to death. So much so, I found myself volunteering to co-lead her troop with another mom. I am very excited about this and so is my daughter. I ironed all of her thingies on to her vest and she is sharp and ready to go.

And of course, I volunteered to bring the first snack. What is more appropriate for our first meeting than Daisy Cupcakes? Check em out:
Not my best work but I think the girls will like them:-)
