Chore Chart

This week, we tackled a chore chart for our youngest daughter. We are trying to teach her about responsiblity and saving money and so, we thought it was the perfect time to institute a chore/allowance system. She is only 5 so, we had to keep it simple. This is what we came up with:

Everyday, she has 4 chores: 1)Make your bed, 2)Put away clothes, 3)Set/clear the table and 4)Pick up your room. If she completes a task, she get a sticker. At $.05 per sticker, she has the ability to earn $1.40 a week. Half of that goes into the savings jar and the other half into her wallet to spend however she wants. She is very excited about this and so are we. It will be a fun way to teach her very important life skills.
What about you? How did you teach your kids about money?

I totally need to do a chore chart! I like yours because it's simple yet effective!

My kids earn money by finding loose coins around the house..LOL!

Those stickers work wonders, don't they? Even my high school students thrive on the occasional sticker or star!

This is such a great idea. I have been so lax all year with Kaishon's chores. Everything just gets so crazy busy with work and school but we are definitely going to implement chores during Summer Vacation!

I love the chore chart idea. We did this for a while with Hayden but then got busy. ;) It needs to happen again.

Great concept. My kids think that money is available at the drop of a hat. Chores are not something I can ever get them to do, but they want a LOT of money for it. I told them nobody pays ME to do chores! LOL

We started something similar at around the same age........we're still trying but these things take time.

We've done similar charts and also talk with the kids about decisions we make and why we make them and the various trade-offs that sometimes have to be made. It's a valuable lesson!

We've been using chore charts in our house for a long time now, and it has really helped to set a routine. My girls get $1.75 week, and of that amount they only get to spend $.75. The rest goes into savings and to charity.

That's a fantastic idea! I've needed to come up with a chore chart for Hannah for awhile now but couldn't figure out what she would be capable of on a daily basis. Thanks so much for sharing.... I think her's will be made shortly! :)

I think that's a great idea!

My kids each have their own little bank accounts that they keep bday money, etc. in.

What a great idea, for now my kids are too little but once they get older I will have to start something like this!

What a great idea. Mine is too little right now to understand this. I will have to use something like this for sure.

Love this idea. My husband's family taught responsibility this way too. Money for each chore completed rather than the whole week. He said he was always volunteering for added duties but his sis didn't. He had tons of money saved his sister always begged to borrow money. Very good life lesson.

I've found that the virtual version works of chore charts for me. I use a site called Handipoints chore charts to make printables and it's really been fun so far!

I like this idea!! I have a 6 year old and he loves the chore charts and stickers but I think I need a new incentive to have him stick to it!!

I have started and stopped chore charts countless times, mainly because I'm an inconsistent slacker. ;-) Thanks for the motivation to try again! I like your system.

btw -- Did you make that? Would you share a copy?
